Regarding the Software Tester position you are advertising on your website

I am writing to apply for the Software Tester position you are advertising on your website at present. I respect ADInstruments as a successful and innovative brand and recognize their significant contribution to the Life Science community as being world class. I am also appreciative that such a successful and innovative business has emerged from Dunedin and has chosen to remain here.

I believe that I have the qualifications, experience and skills to succeed in this position.

I have worked in Life Sciences in a multidisciplinary team at the University of Otago Medical School, resulting in the publication of several co-authored scientific papers.  I have also worked in industry as an Industrial and R&D Chemist, which included method development. In the scientific field, much of my work involved coordination and liaising with other groups and departments.

I also have a degree in Information Technology, majoring in training and communication studies. I completed an industrial research paper on computational methods for athlete monitoring in high impact sport while studying for a Bachelor of Information Technology. During this time, I was also a Peer Tutor and assisted with events held by the Department.

In addition to this I have extensive experience in working with diverse groups of people in often challenging roles, in work and voluntary capacities, which I have found to be invaluable in achieving outcomes. I have made significant contributions to all of the teams I have worked in.

I believe I would be a good candidate for this role because I can utilise skills learned during my extensive experience in both the scientific and educational industries. I have co-authored several published scientific papers during my career (refer to my resume for the full list) and completed an industrial research paper on computational methods for athlete monitoring in high impact sport while studying for a Bachelor of Information Technology. My experience as a tutor at Otago Polytechnic has trained me in the process of developing my knowledge so that it may be most effectively communicated. I received good feedback from students, supervisors and other tutors that I had peer-tutored alike.

I believe that I have the qualifications and experience and skills to succeed in this position. I have worked in Life Sciences in a multidisciplinary team at the University of Otago Medical School, resulting in the publishing of several co-authored scientific papers.  I have also worked in industry as an Industrial and R&D Chemist. and have a degree in Information Technology, majoring in training and communication studies. ……  I have extensive people skills and much of my work has involved liaising and coordination with groups of people, in diverse environments.

To this position I also bring my qualifications which include multiple certificates and degrees. My most recent qualification was the Bachelor of I.T. with a major in Communication Studies and Training. This has specifically equipped me for the tasks involved with learning and disseminating knowledge around the technical side of computer applications. This combined with my many years of experience in biochemistry research and industrial food chemistry adds up to someone who is very capable and confident of learning and communicating concepts in a concise and scientific manner.

I hope you take the time to look over my resume and see for yourself the skills and attributes that I would bring to this role. You may note that I took some time out from the scientific side of my career to raise a family, but after some time spent studying and doing other part time jobs I am now very keen to get involved again.

Thank you for your time, I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Rob Sherriff
